Some meanings from around the world.
Kaia or Kaya is a Buddhist concept of peace or the body at peace with itself.
Kaia is related to the concept of Trikaia which are the 3 bodies of Buddah. The 3 bodies are:
- 1. Nirmanakaia. The Appearance Body. This is the Buddha as he appeared in history but not necessarily as a flesh and blood figure but an almost magical manifestation coming out of compassion for all beings.
- 2. Samboghakaia The Enjoyment Body. This is the Buddha who appears in his own Buddha land for the enjoyment of Bodhisattvas (beings on the verge of Buddhahood who have vowed to postpone their own entry into nibbana until all sentient beings have also been freed from suffering).
- 3. Dharmakaia The Dharma Body. This is the Buddha who is at once the embodiment of the essence of Buddhist truth and ultimate reality.
It is also related to the Buddhist concepts of kaia-passaddhi and kaia-viveka, which mean ‘serenity and solitude of the body’.
